Decisive Beatings at UFC 92!

Quinton Jackson vs Wanderlie SilvaWhat an event. Mir taking out Nog, Rashad Jardine’ing Forrest, and Rampage finally getting revenge on Wand.

Thanks to Slingbox I watched this event across the country with relatives. Many of them had not seen UFC in years and they loved the show. Most were surprised about the rule changes, but all were pleased with the pacing of the fights and the total number of matches. Last week’s dreadful Holyfield bout put at least one cousin to sleep but all of last night’s UFC bouts kept everyone fully intrigued.

My recording of the event is still in Cali so I won’t be able to put any more gifs up until mid-week. I did manage to remotely access my box and grab a piece of the Wand fight but it took forever so I’ll put more up in a few days.

Quinton’s KO of Wand was spectacular. Both guys traded left hooks and the moment Jackson’s landed, Wand was out. Knockouts don’t get much prettier than that. Despite the decisive win, Quinton will probably have to wait until after Machida/Silva gets a shot at Rashad’s belt before he can challenge for it.

Actually Wand threw a right which Rampage blocked, before coming back with the left.. which Wand did not seem to expect at all…

    Thanks for a nice site.

Was I the only person who thought Rampage looked apprehensive as he was approaching the Octagon? If he was, then he worked through it magnificently. Questions must now be asked if Silva can compete at this level against top-tier fighters, as his aggressive, windmill punching style leaves him wide open for counters. I hope to see him back; maybe Brandon Vera, James Irvin or Steve Cantwell are in his future?

Rampage had been working on boxing in the UK – That was a classic boxing counter left hook. If you watch the slow mo replay from the event – You’ll also see Rampage has his right hand in good defrensive position, whilst Wander was throwing a wild flurry with no mind for defense. Boxing Vs MMA debate is tired and old, but that was a perfect demonstration of what the sweet science can add to a MMA fighters game.

You’re right JJ; Jackson’s hand right hand is indeed in a good defensive position. He also threw a nice clean-up right hook in case the left missed (which I missed when I saw the fight live; I was too busy watching Wandy toppling to the mat.)
    Nicely done.

man what a great fight, i agree with jj that was raw. jackson had the perfect block, just like what he did to liddell then BAM put him to sleep right when he hit the can vas and took extra shots while down.

actually, Liddell wasn’t out when he hit the canvas. He was out when Rampage pounded him on the canvas. Silva…was OUT!!!
